When it comes to the Milwaukee Bucks, they certainly have nothing to complain about after winning the NBA championship in 2020-2021.

It appears, however, that the defending world champions aren't getting the recognition they deserve as the release of NBA 2K22, the top-selling video game of all time, approaches. A controversy erupted after the team's top three players, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Khris Middleton, and Jrue Holiday each received their ratings as NBA 2K22 Ratings Countdown: The reveal will be revealed soon, which were deemed too low by some fans.

Similarly, big man Bobby Portis was recently given his rating by Ronnie Singh, alias Ronnie 2K, the game's digital marketing director, who expressed the same sentiments as before. While speaking with the media, Singh revealed that Portis would be rated 79 overall in NBA 2K22, prompting outrage from not only the big man himself, but also the team's adoring fanbase who has supported him since he joined the team during the previous offseason.

Bobby Portis deserves a higher rating in NBA 2K22 after a fantastic season with the Milwaukee Bucks in 2020-21. Because Portis finished NBA 2K21 with an 81 overall rating, seeing his rating drop by two points after this past season is a bit of a puzzle to some.

The big man had one of his best seasons in his career, averaging 11.4 points per game while shooting career highs in both field goal percentage (52.3) and three-point percentage (47.1) percentages. In spite of the fact that his points per game were not particularly impressive, his efficiency was exceptional. He shot 39% from three-point range during the regular season, which was third best in the league. With an average of 7.7 boards per game, he was a solid rebounder for someone who only played a few minutes. Severe consideration for Sixth Man of the Year honors would be given to him for his efforts during the regular season.

Things did become a little hectic during the playoffs, as Portis' efficiency and overall production both suffered significant declines during the stretch run. Part of that was due to his diminished role, as the big man was removed from the team's second-round series against the Brooklyn Nets after being benched for the entire game. Afterwards, however, he would return to the lineup and play a crucial role for the Bucks in the next two rounds against the Atlanta Hawks and the Phoenix Suns, starting both games in place of the previously injured Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Portis, after assisting the Bucks to their first-ever NBA championship, deserves a rating far higher than 79. Portis is rated higher or exactly the same as the other rookies in the game, despite the fact that they have not yet played a regular-season game on an NBA court. Just a little perplexing, there. As he handed out predictions for the roster, our own Bradshaw Furlong predicted that Portis would be an 81 to start the game, which turned out to be a reasonable prediction. It may not seem like a huge difference, but an 81 would have been far more appropriate than a 79 in this situation.

The ratings can fluctuate throughout the season, and the bar can be lowered in order for players to achieve higher rankings. Portis, who will unquestionably improve his overall rating from 79 to 80 during the 2021-22 season, will be a prime example of this. The 26-year-old has lived his entire life with an underdog mentality, and this rating should serve as an additional source of motivation, although the champion is unlikely to be bothered by the news of his performance.
